I am driving up on I-5 and, by the time I hit Marysville, WA, it's raining sideways... The plan is to leave my rental car in Bellingham and ride my bike to Vancouver. A 60 mile ride that should take no more than 5 hours. However, with the rain, I'm starting to chicken out and tell myself that I could just drive to Vancouver?? No? Also, I'm absolutely terrified by the weight of my bike. Now that it's all loaded, it's heavy as hell, I can't even lift it up.
Bellingham - hmm! It's clearing up here! Actually, it's sunny! All right, let's break the ice and ride the Tank.
First time on the bike - Holy Sh**! Definitely a new feeling! A fully loaded touring bike is a total different animal... So ok, it took a bit of time but I get more and more comfortable. Now what. Follow the GPS. Pedal, pedal, pedal. Go over I-5, go north, go over I-5, go north... What's up with all the zig zags?? It took me a while to notice that the &?$?&*#@ GPS was recalculating new routes all the time. What was supposed to be a 15 mile ride to the border ended up being a 3 hour non-sense. Ok, that's fine, I'm in Canadia now. Let's reset the GPS and keep going. I can't even remember what happened but it took me 5 hours to end up at my friend Marianne's house in Kitsilano. First day = 8 hours. How many miles? I still have to figure out that GPS.......
But the ice is broken! I know how to ride a bike! It's fun! No flat, no issues (though I had my first dog chase... scary), everything is cool!
Aie aie aie! Désolée pour la traduction, il fait beau à Vancouver et il faut profiter de la journée!
Je serai plus diligente à l'avenir....
