Some of you might have noticed that I changed my itinerary. Initially supposed to go all the way down to Montana, through Glacier National Park, I now stick to the North side of the borders. Sorry Montanans (Lisa and Darrell!), I would go through your state - they're still plowing in Glacier and the road will not be open until mid June.
Yesterday, on my day off in very trendy Radium Hot Springs, I talked to some people about my plans to climb in the Bugaboos with Gilbert. They all looked at me with the same amused-surprised kinda look. "Well, if you have a 4x4, you'll make it to the parking lot but.. after that, it's snow up to your crotch. Haven't heard of nobody going to the hut yet..". Geoff, the owner of the Misty River Lodge where I was spending the nights, told me that it was not really worth it. So no awesome classic granite climbing for now :( It was just killing me to ride along that surprisingly big chain of mountains today.
Besides that.. hmm.. not much happened today! I rode the 103 km (64 miles) that separate Radium of Golden and am currently all by myself in some random backpacker hostel (I'm not hitting the campgrounds yet.. they're the same price as the hostels..). Golden is probably the biggest town I've seen so far, since I left Vancouver. The food price at the grocery stores is starting to be decent again (so, so, so expensive everywhere else)..
Certains d'entre-vous l'ont peut-être remarqué, j'ai changé mon itinéraire de manière assez monumentale. Ayant planifié me diriger vers le Montana pour traverser Glacier National Park, je n'avais pas pensé que la route du parc serait fermée jusqu'à la mi-juin. Les déneigeuses sont toujours au travail... Donc je vais rester de mon côté de la frontière et visiter la vallée d'Okanagan.
Hier, alors que je me reposais dans le superbe village de Radium Hot Springs (hum, hum...), j'ai discuté avec plusieurs personnes de mes plans d'aller grimper dans les Bugaboos avec Gilbert. Tous m'ont regardé d'un air amusé, surpris et inquiet. "Vous pourrez peut-être vous rendre jusqu'au stationnement avec un 4x4, mais ensuite, vous aurez de la neige jusqu'aux fesses. Personne n'y est monté cette année." Geoff, le propriétaire du Misty River Lodge ou je passais la nuit, m'a confirmé que ça ne valait pas la peine. Donc pas de superbe escalade de granite pour l'instant :(
Sinon, rien de spécial! J'ai roulé mes 103 km de Radium jusqu'à Golden et je suis présentement toute seule dans une auberge quelconque. Golden est probablement la plus grosse ville que j'ai vue depuis mon départ de Vancouver et enfin, les prix à l'épicerie sont beaucoup moins exorbitants!
